Term 1 Focus: Entertain
Creative Writing Prompts
Writing Stimulus #1
As we start a new school year and begin thinking about what kind of classroom culture we want to create for ourselves this year, it's worth thinking about the value of rules. Do we need rules? If so, what values should they protect? An interesting way to begin this type of critical thinking is to start by imagining there were no rules. This week's story starter places you in just such a world. What happens next is up to you. I can't wait to read your stories. |
Writing Stimulus #2
To become a great story writer, we have to learn how to describe people: their feelings, their mannerisms, their character. Let's begin by describing this girl at this particular moment in time. What is she feeling? How do you know? Describe what you see. Try to be specific. Imagine you are telling a friend about the photograph over the phone. How could you help your friend create a clear mental image of the photo? Try to imagine the circumstances. What may have happened? Have you ever experienced a similar emotion? How did you feel? Sometimes drawing on our own experiences can help us put ourselves into others' shoes. Get creative. Write a brief description drawing on your ideas above. |
