Ride Safe

Are you ready for some fun? It's time for our very own Ride Safe Adventure.
Let's get into it!

Challenge 1: Pedestrian Safety
Explore the map of Safety Town. Find and play the School's Out! mini-game to practise making safe decisions as a pedestrian.
Click on the pic below to start playing.

Challenge 2: Protecting Yourself
Watch the video below. What tips do the experts give about choosing a good helmet?
Record your discoveries in your Integrated Studies book along with the checklist below.
Try your own helmet on? Does if fit the guidelines?
What other equipment could you use to keep you safe?
Show your fitted helmet to the teacher.

Challenge 3: Know the Rules
When riding your bike around your neighbourhood, you may see some of these common road signs, but what do they mean? What should you do to keep yourself safe? What can you expect others to do?
Research to find out a little more about those you don't know, then complete the worksheet from your teacher to capture your understanding.

Challenge 4: Design your own Ride Safe course
Grab some grid paper and get creative. Design a fun Ride Safe course for our TNS carpark.
1. Research to find out what the signs above mean.
2. Sketch out your course. You may like to include scale, slope and direction.
3. Try to include a range of road conditions in your design. Optional on-road and off-road sections may help to bring your course to life.
4. Show where you would place a selection of the signs above.
5. Share your finished designs with the class. The most popular design will be traced out on our carpark for your friends to enjoy.

Challenge 5: Design a Sign
Pick one of the street signs above and recreate it for use on our Ride Safe Course.
How will you display it so that your fellow road users are kept safe?

Challenge 6: Build your knowledge
Explore the following resources to investigate how gears work. Click on the pics to learn more.
Try conducting the test in the video yourself. What did you discover? Write a short statement summarising your findings. How might you be able to use your new knowledge?

Challenge 8: Cogs, Gears and Maths
Finally, here's one last optional challenge for you to test your skills on.
Click on the pic below to explore the factors and multiples that arise as a result of spinning cogs.
Compare the position of the teeth on each spin. What do you notice?
